Removal of one limb from Beach Valley Road pohutukawa

The red reflector marks the limb that Auckland Transport is seeking to remove. The limb on the pohutukawa further on was also threatened but is now not to be removed.

Parks are planning on trimming one limb from a Pohutukawa outside 28-30 Beach Valley Road.  This limb is being removed due to a number of reported incidents where vehicles have hit the limb.  These incidents have occurred as the limb extends into the road corridor and extends into the height envelope to allow for safe vehicle movements.

This trimming does not require consent as it is less than 20% of the existing tree and will not drastically affect the canopy. This is supported by a report commissioned from Arborlab.

However, Parks are currently applying for consent to carry out this trimming even though this is not required as work will not exceed the allowable 20% per annum. Parks have chosen to obtain consent purely to ensure that all works is carried out to best practice standards and in a transparent manner.
