The Gap – Past, Present and Future

Piha Coastcare Guided Walk This coming Sunday (April 17) Piha Coastcare is hosting a field trip to The Gap and Tennis Courts, with an emphasis on history and ecology. We are now part-owners of this spectacular addition to our Regional Park. Come along and hear about it from locals and experts. Should the Tennis Court vegetation (Selleeria radicans, otherwise known as snogging grass) be restored to the tennis-court smoothness maintained by Johnny Byers, or should continue to take its course as the natural growth of Oioi and other natives moves in? Have a say in how it will be preserved. When: Sunday 17th April, 10.30 am Where: Meet at the far southern end of Piha Beach Bring: Lunch, water, walking shoes, sunhat, sunscreen, raincoat Grade: Average walking fitness required. Suitable for children who can walk to The Gap Route: Transport will be arranged up to the access track from Piha Road to the Gap. Walk down the access track. Visit the Tennis Courts and the Gap. Lunch on the beach. Return by either the cliff-top track or the beach to Piha Beach. (Low tide is 12.30) RSVP: to tuivale@pl.net so that we can get an idea of how many people we need to transport to the start point for the walk. Inquiries to Pat 8128 202. We hope to see you there.
