Sand dune to be topped

Posted by SCe Comments Off on Sand dune to be topped

At the request of the Piha surf club, the Parks Department of Auckland Council will be taking the top off the dune in front of the surf club during the winter.

The surf club has said that the growth in height of the dune is obscuring their view of the rip around Lion Rock from their control room, thus creating a risk to public safety.

The crest of the dune will be lowered by about two metres. The sand removed will be redistributed with the Piha beach system and the dune will be replanted with native species.

A resource consent is needed for the works. The application will be submitted in April and the physical works undertaken in winter 2017.
