Man rescued from Piha cliffs

Posted by SCe Comments Off on Man rescued from Piha cliffs

A man was successfully rescued from cliffs at the south end of Piha beach after becoming stuck as darkness fell on 10 September. Tasman Lookout Track is closed after damage from Cyclone Gabrielle in February. However, visitors still try and complete the track despite it being fenced off with warning placards.

It seems this man went off track, either by losing his way in the darkness or falling. He then phoned rescue services who had to use abseilers to bring him to safety.

Virtually all tracks in Piha are closed through cyclone damage, This includes Lion Rock, Whites Track, Marawhara Walk, Kitekite Falls Track, and Laird Thomson Track.
