Auckland Council Parks Department and Auckland Transport have decided to remove the limb of the pohutukawa in Beach Valley Road that is below the height threshhold for the road.

A number of reports had been sought on the safety aspects for traffic and the effect on the tree. Transport officers could not come up with any engineering solution while aborists have inspected the tree and recommended that the health and longevity of the tree would not be affected by the loss of the limb.
