Zeke’s birds at West Coast Gallery

Make sure you go along and see Zeke Wolf’s Birdshead Revisited show at the West Coast Gallery. There are paintings, large and small, plates with giant kokako, and his lovely pottery leaves (love the whay leaves) for hanging or sitting around.

The paintings feature the West Coast with places such as Mercer Bay, Karekare, Piha and Whatipu. All are given Zeke’s unique twist with multitudinous birds in the frame. Loved the fantail (piwaka) gathering, and the tuis over Piha. Zeke has a very vivid imagination so these are not representative paintings, but landscapes interpreted from the heart with our feathered friends as principle inhabitants.

Also in some, mythical taniwha, eel-like, peering around rocky bluffs or out of sea-caves.

I’m told the opening was a very well-attended event with much interest in the small portraits of birds –  at under $50 these are an affordable purchase and you can see plenty of red dots in the photo below. Many medium sized paintings at around $550 and larger paintings costing more.
