Karekare local women, Shalema Wanden-Hannay and Alia Bland, took their kids for a play on the beach and ended up saving a boy from the collapse of a sand tunnel  he was digging. The story from the Western Leader is below but congratulations to all involved in the rescue, and to parents and young folk, this is a cautionary tale about the need to treat sand dunes with respect.  Play on top of them, not below!
