A Discovery Walk: When Piha was a Volcano with Dr Bruce Hayward

    Dr Hayward is a walking fountain of knowledge. His recent book Out of the Ocean into the Fire: History in the rocks, fossils and landforms of Auckland, Northland and Coromandel includes accounts of the eruption and erosion of the ancient Waitakere Volcano. He was made a Member of NZ Order of Merit in 2006 for services to earth science conservation. Please join us on this walking escapade to Piha.

The walk will take about about 120 minutes and cover about 4 kilometres. The walking terrain will include Road side gallery to beach

Sand wet and dry along beach, Steep incline up Tasman Lookout Track and more gentle down to The Gap. Back around beach and road back to gallery.

Stops to explain and talk and catch breath along way.

Not suitable for wheelchairs or those with walking disabilities.
