Anawhata Guided Walk

Posted by SCe Comments Off on Anawhata Guided Walk

Sunday 22 April – Anawhata, Waitakere Ranges Regional Park

Guided walk and exploring a remote part of the Regional Park Network

The Anawhata area is classified as wilderness and the challenge is how to retain this character within a growing Auckland.

We will see part of the Hillary Trail, the beaches, Anawhata Farm, and conservation challenges of the rugged land to the north. See how private land is integrated with park land. Discuss Kauri Die back and the successful Book a Bach programme. See the re-vegetation programme and discuss the future of the land north to Bethells Beach?

Park ranger Simon will meet us at the Craw Homestead Car park – 8 km down the Anawhata Rd at 10.00 am [the Anawhata Rd is off the Piha Rd ” contact Kit for more directions if unsure]. The Homestead is booked but we can park there and see the outside of this new facility and the camping area. From there we will drive to the Whites Track car park [1km down the Road] and take a walk around the farm –  about 1.5 hours. This is all subject to weather and the programme may change so please let me have your contact details if you are coming.

Wear strong footwear and bring wet weather gear.

For those who care to stay on bring some lunch to share at Kit and Meg’s Cottage. There will be  an opportunity to visit the old University Hut Monument later in the day if time.

For further details contact Kit on (09) 6301490,  0276671059 or kithowden@xtra.co.nz
